Herbal Body and Face Scrub

Herbal Body and Face Scrub

Prep time: 5 minutes | Yield: ~1.5 cups

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup oil-soaked plant material (leftover marc from your oil strainer)

  • 1 cup coarse sugar or fine sea salt (for face scrub, use fine brown sugar or ground oats)

  • Optional: 1–2 tbsp extra almond oil if the mix feels too dry

Instructions

  1. Grind the Marc: Throw the oil-soaked plant material into a food processor or grinder. Pulse until finely minced so there are no large, rough stems or leaves.

  2. Mix: Dump the ground plant matter into a glass bowl with your sugar, salt, or oats. Work it together with a fork until the oil saturates the dry base evenly.

  3. Store: Pack it into a clean glass jar.

How to Use

  1. Spoon 1–2 tablespoons into a small dry dish before getting wet. Keep shower water out of the main jar.

  2. Rub into damp skin using firm, circular motions to strip off dead skin and scrub away grime.

  3. Rinse off with warm water. The residual almond and coconut oils will stay behind to protect your skin.

Waste Nothing: Herbal Upcycling for Outside Living

Herbal oil infusions take time and patience. You let good botanicals sit for weeks in sweet almond and coconut oils, pulling out every bit of goodness the flowers, leaves, and roots have to offer.

When you strain that oil for a salve, the work isn't finished.

The plant matter left in your strainer—the marc—is heavy with rich, leftover oil. Tossing it out is a waste of solid resources. That herbal material still holds all the raw, plant-based hydration your skin craves after a long day in the sun, dirt, or trail wind.

By mincing those oil-soaked herbs and binding them with raw sugar or salt, you get a gritty, grounded scrub that works as hard as you do. The natural abrasives slough off dead skin, trail dust, and calluses, while the trapped almond and coconut oils sink in to restore your skin's barrier.

No fancy fillers, no synthetic junk, and no wasted harvest. Just pure, functional botanicals put to full use.
